What is Deshima?
Deshima is a region on Second life (a virtual world platform). Deshima was designed to be a space oriented location, in particular a large space station in what is known to the area as "Deshima Station", located in the "Deshima Sector" of space. This region implements a form of role-play designated "GreyRP".
The brief story behind Deshima Station (the space station inside the Deshima Sector) is that it currently exists far beyond any major space colonies, settlements and is currently the only major station in the sector. The station has been operating continuously for about 60 years and suffers from corrosion issues caused by the gas nebular in which the station exists in. There has been and still is continuous maintenance and work on done on the station throughout it's lifetime.
The station's initial purpose was to mine cobalt from the nebular which is partly produced by the white dwarf star near by. However, due to the unique location of the station, the station serves also as a major pit-stop for a lot of ships that travel through the sector, offering certain tourism services from access to swimming pools, entertainment to private rentable suites.
